In the summer of 2022, Fitz Gary joined the Garth Newel Piano Quartet as violist and Co-Artistic Director. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia, Fitz maintains an active international career, having toured throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. His performances have taken place at major venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, London’s Royal Albert Hall, and Suntory Hall in Japan.

Fitz completed his undergraduate studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, studying with Jeffrey Irvine, and earned his graduate degree from The Juilliard School, where he studied with Heidi Castleman and Hsin-Yun Huang. As a 2013–2014 Fulbright Scholar, he continued his studies in Germany with Barbara Westphal at the Musikhochschule Lübeck, where he was awarded the DAAD Prize for Outstanding International Student and earned a second master’s degree. During his time in Germany, Fitz also performed with the Grammy Award–winning NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra in Hamburg as a member of its Academy.

An active advocate for music education and outreach, Fitz served as a Clinician Ambassador for D’Addario, presenting the Strings 101 clinic to K–12 and collegiate musicians throughout the Hampton Roads region. He also served as President of the Feldman Chamber Music Society in Norfolk, Virginia, where he curated and presented chamber music performances for the local community.

In 2012, Fitz founded Music Feeds Us, a chamber music concert series dedicated to social awareness and hunger relief. Over seven seasons, the series—featured on Performance Today—raised more than 175,000 meals for food banks across Virginia, demonstrating the power of chamber music as a force for positive social impact.

As an orchestral musician, Fitz has performed with some of the nation’s leading ensembles, including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center.

As Co-Artistic Director, Fitz Gary contributes to the artistic leadership of Garth Newel Music Center, helping to shape its performance programming, educational initiatives, and commitment to chamber music as both an artistic and community-driven practice.
