Garth Newel is nestled in the beautiful Allegheny Mountains of Bath County, Virginia, conveniently located about halfway between Warm Springs and Hot Springs on U.S. Route 220.

Our entrance is clearly marked with a "Garth Newel Lane" sign on the east side of Route 220. Please note that our address is not always GPS-friendly, so we recommend using the directions on our Directions page for the most accurate route.

Parking is free and ample. There is Accessible Parking reserved near the hall. Please allow enough time to park your car before a performance.

Yes. The concert hall is accessible, and there is accessible parking and restrooms as well. Please notify us at the time of ticket purchasing of your needs.

In addition to providing superb acoustics, our concert hall is fully enclosed, heated, and air conditioned. Except for in the most extreme circumstances, the show will go on.

Yes! Our main season runs from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. The Summer Festival may be our best known time of year. But exciting events are happening year round at Garth Newel including Fall Foliage, Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve, and other occasional events.

Dogs are welcomed on the grounds but only service animals are allowed inside Herter Hall and the Manor House.

A service animal is any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Under the ADA, service animals must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered, unless these devices interfere with the service animal’s work or the individual’s disability prevents using these devices. In that case, the individual must maintain control of the animal through voice, signal, or other effective controls.

Visit Garth Newel and enjoy world class chamber music performances. The Garth Newel Piano Quartet, our resident ensemble, plays many of our concerts. Though most of the concerts are classical chamber music, you may find a variety throughout the year.

Performance length varies, but most evening concerts last about two hours, including intermission.

The concert hall opens 30 minutes before the concert. A cash bar will also be open at this time for most concerts.

All concerts are general admission so you may choose any available seat when you arrive.

Although most artists appreciate applause at anytime during a performance, audiences should wait until the end of a piece to clap. This is considered respectful to the performers’ concentration and mindful of musical continuity. If you’re unsure about when to applaud, a good rule of thumb is to follow the lead of other audience members.

The use of cameras and other recording and electronic devices is not permitted in the concert hall. Please, turn off cell phone, alarm watch, pager, and other electronic devices before your concert begins. As a courtesy to fellow patrons, please refrain from texting.

At Garth Newel, you'll find a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and there is no formal dress code. Guests wear everything from jeans and boots to cocktail dresses and sport coats, depending on the occasion.

Summer concerts tend to be more casual, while a few special events may be black-tie optional. Whether you're enjoying an elegant evening out or arriving after a day of exploring the mountains, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable.

Absolutely! Children are welcome as long as they are able to enjoy the performance without distracting other audience members.

Families may also enjoy concerts presented by our youth program, the Allegheny Mountain String Project. These performances are a wonderful way to introduce young listeners to the joy of live music and are perfect for the whole family.

Garth Newel offers exceptional chef-crafted dining to complement our concerts. Menus vary by performance and season and may include elegant multi-course dinners, buffets, or brunches featuring fresh, high-quality ingredients. Advance meal reservations are strongly recommended, as seating for dining is limited and frequently sells out.

The Garth Newel grounds are open year-round and provide a beautiful setting for a picnic before or after your visit.

Wine, beer, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase before concerts and during intermission. You're welcome to take your beverage into the concert hall and enjoy it during the performance.

Tickets may be exchanged in person or by phone at least 24 hours before the scheduled performance. Exchanges cannot be made for events that have already begun or taken place. Complimentary tickets are not eligible for exchange.

Refunds are generally not available. However, in exceptional circumstances, Garth Newel Music Center may, at its discretion, offer a full refund.

"Garth Newel" is a Welsh phrase that loosely translates to "new hearth" or "new home." The name was given to the property in the 1920s when artist William Sergeant Kendall and his wife, Christine Herter Kendall, made their home in Bath County.
