PATTY LEMON
Patty Lemon was raised on the banks of the Chester River in Chestertown, Maryland. She graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in English and Art History.
She attended Wake Forest University as a graduate student in English and served as Assistant to the Editor of The Wake Forest University Press, a publishing house for contemporary Irish poetry.
She has served as editor in the children’s division of the United Methodist Publishing House; an editor in the Creative Services Department of Emory University; and, once her own daughters arrived, the writer of various poems, Santa letters, and Christmas puppet shows.
Patty was intrinsically involved with the founding of the Friends of the Arts group at North Cross School and a years-long member of the Book Fair committee as well as a volunteer for The Taubman Museum’s ArtVenture program.
Currently, she serves as an Elder for The Second Presbyterian Church. She is a member of The Roanoke Valley Garden Club (a past Program Chair) with a particular enthusiasm for flower arranging, historic gardens, and nurturing her own landscape.
She serves on the Board for The Shenandoah Club, working on the guest lecture program, members’ brochure, and the launching of a column called “Members Remember” that captures the memories of this 100-year-old institution.
Since childhood, she has been an avid horsewoman and has volunteered in various capacities for Southwest Virginia Hunter/Jumper Association and the Virginia Horse Center.
Patty and her husband Stephen live in Roanoke, Virginia, but spare weekends often find her tending a vegetable garden and their 1860 farmhouse.
