Garth Newel Music Center began offering violin classes for children ages 3 and up in the fall of 2004. The program is led by Cynthia Penne, an experienced teacher and accomplished musician from Lexington, and is based on the Suzuki approach of violin instruction, which applies the basic principles of learning a language to the learning of music. Research has shown that this is the ideal age to begin music lessons and that music helps foster brain development and muscle coordination.
